Guardian Jetbikes: Three is a crowd?

So recently 3++ featured a small article on the merits of Guardian Jetbikes as scoring units (post here).
One of the important points made by Kirby is that Jetbikes 'really need to supplement an Eldar's scoring rather than be a focal point'.

Well said Kirby, this has my vote for sure. That said, can they really be viable in units of three? Am I missing something here fellow Eldar players? For 66 points, you'll have a fast moving unit with the same basic stats as a marine. Think about that for a moment. Take one casualty, and you test at an unimpressive ld 8, falling back at 3d6. Fail that test at two casualties, and you can never regroup...

For me, good list building has always been based around capitalising your strengths and compensating for your weaknesses. For example, i've made sure everything in my entire army is mobile and survivable - even my Vypers yes! - despite being quite a minimal force. Given that there's a small number of units on the board, i've compensated by making them damn hard to kill. It's by no means a purely rock list either, and packs an impressive amount of firepower.Which brings me back to this idea of taking '3x Guardian Jetbikes'...

In objective games, the most you can hope for is to keep them in reserve for as long as possible, hiding them from view when they enter play, then racing for an objective on turn 5. Easier said than done. A smart general will see the opportunity to easily neutralise a scoring unit. KP missions, even worse. Again, all you can do is hide, but this time the unit acts completely as a negative. All it can do is deny KPs, which frankly for me is a bit useless.

Every Artist Needs Their Studio

Looking like a cross between a minatures workbench and a carnival of psychotic white clowns led by a sauropod, it must be where Iggy spends most of his evenings, when he's not being awesome everywhere else, that is.

We make our painting space wherever we can. For me it's ranged from a room shared with 11 gerbils, to a college dorm that can barely fit a battleforce, let alone a wiry tabletop gamer.

Bitten By the Vyper

It's been a busy couple of weeks for me, with a lot of tweaking, a lot of fine-tuning of my Eldar warhost to get things moving for the upcoming Gaelcon Event in October. My list is slowly coming together. Banshees are out, even Farseers on the shelf for now. It's fast, it's furious and it's totally Eldar, and zooming up the tabletop alongside those sleek Waveserpents are squadrons of Vypers.

Eldarology

I had quite an odd day today - it kicked off with a trip down to the comic store, Other Realms with my Eldar in tow to face Dave's nasty Space Wolves, and ended up with me busking on the streets with a pair of musicians, even using my warhammer case like a drumkit, like some crazy sci-fi, post apocalyptic reggae space elf. Great game as ever with Dave, which ended up in a draw by turn 7.

Aside from our monday night sessions at the club, you can get some decent games in at the store on weekends. Other Realms has a sort of gravitational pull that draws in anyone with the slightest disposition towards wargaming or general comic book geekery. It's the kind of place I like to imagine where my Eldar end up when they die. Who wants to buzz around in an Infinity Circuit forever? Not me!

I'd picked up my first ever Eldar about six years back, in New York of all places.

Sword of Vaul

I've been thinking about setting up a blog for some time now, to finally put together something official to imortalise on the internets our recent Warhammer 40k Club here in Cork City! It's an exciting prospect, to have a new group of avid Wargamers come together, some are new to the game, others (you know who you are) can coolly claim their Veteran status.

I myself, have just recently, after a bout of great (and mostly unsuccessful) games have finally taken my head out of the memoirs of the now deceased 4th edition, and at last, i'm beginning to ease comfortably into 5th edition! I recently even beat Mal's hard-as-nails Plague marine list to boot! Is my luck beginning to change? *ponders*

With more and more people showing up for our weekly games, we truly have a Warhost assembling, and I must say, it's very exciting. Now at last, I can polish the dust from my old Seers and get them back where they belong - right in the thick of battle!
